Title:                          Human Resource and Organizational Culture Generalist

Salary Type:            Full Time Exempt /Salary range: $60,000 – $68,000 

Salary Range:       $70k - $75k

Basic Job Purpose/Function:

The HR & Organizational Culture Generalist is responsible for fostering a healthy, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace. This role combines traditional human resources responsibilities—such as managing benefits, personnel issues, and employment reviews—with a focus on cultivating an office culture that is welcoming, supportive, and aligned with Rogue Food Unites (RFU) values.

The ideal candidate is empathetic, organized, and experienced in nonprofit or people-focused work. They will act as trusted resources for staff and ensure that policies and practices support organizational effectiveness and employee well-being.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Human Resources & Personnel

  • Manage the whole employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, and transitions.

  • Support recruitment and hiring of new employees.

  • Administer benefits, leave requests, payroll coordination, and compliance with

    employment laws.

  • Serve as a confidential resource for staff regarding workplace concerns, conflicts, and

    personnel issues.

  • Support supervisors with coaching, conflict resolution, and performance management.

  • Demonstrated discretion, personal integrity, and superior ethics, as this position deals

    with confidential and sensitive information.

  • Demonstrated experience serving clients across a diverse spectrum of backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a high-volume professional office setting with

    complex and sensitive data within information systems and data management systems.

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in promoting and advancing an atmosphere of inclusiveness and collegiality, in addition to a workplace culture of equity, respect, and advocacy.

  • Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to work with diverse populations.

    Office Culture & Engagement

  • Develop initiatives to foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.

  • Plan staff gatherings, retreats, and recognition programs to strengthen team cohesion.

  • Ensure organizational values are reflected in day-to-day operations.

  • Promote inclusion across all aspects of staff engagement.

    Performance & Reviews

  • Lead annual and mid-year employment review processes, and supervisor check ins.

  • Provide guidance on goal-setting, feedback, and growth opportunities for staff.

  • Track professional development needs and opportunities.

    Organizational Development

  • Maintain and update employee handbook, policies, and procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with HR best practices and applicable regulations.

  • Collaborate with leadership on workforce planning and organizational strategy.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 3+ years of HR, people operations, or nonprofit management experience.

  • Strong understanding of employment law, HR compliance, and best practices.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with high emotional intelligence.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster inclusivity, resolve conflicts, and build a positive work

    culture.

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and basic office software.

  • Bilingual in Spanish Strongly Preferred

  • Commitment to RFU’s mission and values.


Working Conditions:

Work is typically performed in an office environment while sitting at a computer terminal, although work is also performed in a warehouse where food is prepared for delivery and/or outside/onsite at various locations in different weather conditions. Repetitive hand/write motion for data-entry and keyboarding functions. Occasional strain to the eyes while working with a computer terminal. Frequent interruption or change in workflow is expected.

Must be able to meet other usual and customary physical requirements, including:

  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.

  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move boxes or bags of food weighing up to 40

    pounds regularly/occasionally

  • Must be able to respond quickly to sounds.

  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.

  • Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations.

  • Must be able to work in cold or hot environments and on concrete floors.

  • Physical ability to work indoors if masked for Covid protection, including sitting, standing,

    loading, running, and/or climbing stairs while masked.
